In the 18th century, the lager revolution swept across Europe like a storm. Belgian breweries had to innovate to stay afloat. So they went back to the roots of Belgian beers: special yeasts. Belgian Blond Ale (Blonde in French) is a beer made from pilsner and some aromatic malts, fermented with Belgian yeast.

As a beginner brewer, this may seem like a basic lager recipe, with the twist being the aggressive Belgian top-fermenting yeasts.
