AFR is a natural oakchips, which is not subjected to any treatment. It adds a spicy yet sweet aroma to the beer. Winemakers add it to white wine to increase its complexity. Expected effect: contributes to the development of quality aromas (furans, phenol aldehydes, volatile phenols, octolactones)
In general, the more heavily roasted the wood, the stronger the aromas released. Strong flavours are only recommended where the character of the beer can handle it.
